Artist Statement I did my time as an art student, daubing paint on canvas, pressing pencil to paper, sticking anything to everything and grappling with the notion of form and function. I spent countless hours staring into space, waiting for the muse to be upon me and.....I'm still waiting! In the meantime, I find myself turning textiles into icons of modern day culture and wondering why I feel so comfortable. Could this my calling? Maybe I'm not the only one out there who needs to turn felt and thread into a can of beans purely because it's Wednesday and the voices told me to! I find it difficult to describe my work as it is a fusion of many styles and influences that seems to take on a life of their own in the making. As an artist I have no desire to alienate the viewer but to engage with them and find a common thread! For me that is the double take, the giggle as the penny drops or just the need to reach out and touch. |
